William T. Ruhl FAIA
Partner - Creative Director
I have always been drawn to the artistic and material aspects of architecture, but I appreciate that it is the relationships we build with our clients, colleagues, and craftspeople where the real soul of the profession lies.
Will co-founded RUHL | JAHNES in 2022, after 26 years with the award-winning and widely published firms Ruhl Studio Architects in Watertown and Ruhl Walker Architects in Boston. He received his BA in art and art history from Duke University and his Masters of Architecture from Yale University, where he studied with the Japanese sensei, Tadao Ando, as well as the renowned New York master architect, George Ranalli, FAIA. Will is currently serving on the Boston Society of Architects Board of Directors and College of Fellows Committee, the Advisory Board of Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art. Will was formerly a member of the Conservation Commission for the town of Rockport, MA, from 2017-2022, and was vice-chair of the Board of Trustees of The White Mountain School in Bethlehem, NH, from 2011-2015. Previous community appointments have included chairing the Design Review Board of the Town of Wellesley for 6 years as well as being a member of the Tenacre Country Day School’s Building and Grounds Committee. In 2019, Will was elevated to the prestigious College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects, an honor awarded to members who have made significant contributions to the profession. Will has designed projects throughout New England as well as Hawai’i, Florida, North Carolina, and St. Croix in the Virgin Islands.
On a personal note, Will has been married to his beloved wife, Jennifer, since 1985, he has two amazing daughters, and he has three adorable granddaughters. Direct quote: “Being a father of daughters and a grandfather of granddaughters is the best!!!” Besides spending as much time as possible playing with his toddler granddaughters, Will is also obsessed with Instagram (he is pretty sure that it was invented just for him), digital photography, drawing (yes, by hand, so old-school), traveling, kayaking in Rockport where he built the house he had been dreaming of since he was seven, on and on…
