Derek joined Ruhl | Jahnes in 2022. His professional experience includes residential and historic projects, human factor-driven clinical and research lab design, as well as carpentry and digital fabrication. Derek has held previous architectural positions at Dyer Brown Associates, LLM Design, and most recently at Silverman Trykowski Associates in Boston. He understands through his years of experience that making meaningful connections and listening to people who share different perspectives can produce the most noteworthy and sensible results. Derek is a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston.

Outside of the studio, Derek’s unquenchable curiosity keeps him busy with a myriad of hobbies, including searching for new hobbies and learning new skills. He enjoys playing guitar (and making them!), mountain biking (and building them!), and spending time in nature with his Partner, Tracy, and dog Gus. Derek also enjoys exploring the new technologies on the blockchain and how they might instill positive change in the future.
